Calabash House is an intimate beachfront vacation destination in Treasure Beach on the southwest coast of Jamaica about 2 hours from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. The property is comprised of a main house with 4 bedrooms and 3 cottages. In addition to the magnificent beachfront vista, guests are just steps away from the best swimming beach in the area through the lush backyard garden.

Many art objects on display

Visitors are immediately struck by the whimsically painted furniture, carvings, and other objects on display everywhere. With a spectacular mosaic wall and bougainvillea hedge separating it from the main road, the front veranda offers spectacular views of the Santa Cruz mountains. Among other things, rooms come with a ceiling fan, balcony, digital safe, and desk as well as cable television, and high-speed internet. The main house comes with a fully equipped kitchen and can accommodate up to 15 guests.

Great dining on and off the property

Guests have the option of dining on property with meals prepared by Suzette, who will for a reasonable price, make mouth-watering (Jamaican or American style) breakfasts and dinners. Popular nearby restaurants include Jack Sprat, Mello Yello, Pardy’s Frenchman Restaurant, Eggys’, Niah’s, Nyammings, and Smurf Cafe.

Ganja easily available

Calabash House has an open attitude toward ganja. Guests are allowed to smoke on the property and there is a herb house a short drive away in the village of Nain. There are also lots of local farmers from whom weed can be purchased. Suzette, the housekeeper, is knowledgeable about the area and will gladly point guests looking to replenish their stash in the direction of a local farmer. Farm tours are also available.

An emerging arts center

Calabash House is an emerging arts destination in Treasure Beach. The Mermaid Gallery opens daily and hosts many events throughout the year as well as during the annual Calabash International Literary Festival.
